Do I have to undergo both assessments?

This depends on the court’s decision. 

Are my medical and psychological assessments conducted on the same day?

Yes, at Vias institute, combined fitness-to-drive assessments take place on the same day and at the same location.

Who carries out the assessments?

The medical assessment is carried out by a doctor and the psychological assessment by a psychologist. In a combined assessment, the final recommendation is reached through joint deliberation.

What happens if I don’t communicate my choice of institution within one month?

In this case the prosecutor’s office will select an institution for you and inform you accordingly.

How much do the assessments cost?

The maximum fee is set by law each year. Check the current rates on our website.

In which languages are the fitness-to-drive assessments conducted?

The fitness-to-drive assessment is conducted in the official language of the region in which the office is located.

  • in Flanders: in Dutch

  • in Wallonia: in French

  • in Brussels: in Dutch and French

  • in the German-speaking Community: in German and French

This means it is up to you to arrange for a sworn interpreter if you are not fluent enough in the official language of the region.
