Since 16 February 2023, Belgium has had a legislation in place to protect so-called "whistleblowers". These new rules were introduced by the law of 28 November 2022 on "the protection of reporters of breaches of Union or national law established within a legal entity in the private sector" (the "Whistleblowers Act"). The Belgian law is a transposition of a European directive.
The Whistleblower Act introduces the obligation for companies such as Vias institute to establish an "internal reporting channel" so that any breaches of certain Belgian and European law can be detected and dealt with at an early stage. Those wishing to report these breaches are protected by the Whistleblower Act.
A whistleblower wishing to report a breach can do so through our internal reporting channel "Whistleblower Software".
Information about the Whistleblower Act for external parties can be found here.
